2 children playing with spaces in a sandpit

This week has been a great week! Despite the lack of sunshine, we explored all sorts of things in our outdoor space.

Playdough is always a big hit and really brings out the children’s creativity. It’s such an incredible material for so many reasons!

Not only can it provide sensory stimulation, but it allows children to explore different textures and shapes. It can help to hone motor skills as they pinch it, squeeze it, roll it and more! Plus it offers endless creativity and imaginative play, something we see a lot at Dodleston Pre-School.

The children decided to make pizza with it!

We were hugely grateful for some newly donated items for the children to use. This hoop game was a big hit so thank you to our lovely neighbours and past children for dropping them off.

The children spend so much time in the sand pit, and it’s the place where all sorts of weird and wonderful things occur. This week, it was mermaids with sparkly mermaid gems. We have so many toys for our sandpit, from diggers to bucket and spades. It really feels like a day at the beach, especially when the sun is shining.

The children are always interested in bugs and we see a lot of them due to the amount of time we spend outside. This week we took a closer look at a number of different bugs, commenting on how they look, how many legs they have and chatted about where they live before releasing them somewhere safe.

Finally, we enjoyed some play with the gems this week. Who knew there were so many possibilities? We have seen gem decorated cakes, potions with special gem ingredients and spent some time treasure hunting for gems.
