We absolutely love December here at Dodleston Pre-School. We always have so much fun in the run up to Christmas and we’re always thinking of amazing ways to celebrate Christmas with the children! This December has been a really lovely one. The weather has been mild (though a little rainy) so we’ve taken the opportunity to spend a bit of time inside and get stuck into some crafts!

Decorating our pre-school Christmas tree

Each year, Dodleston church hosts a miniature Christmas tree festival, and groups across the village, including the pre-school, the local history group, the craft group, the primary school and more, decorate their trees in a way that feels right to them!

This year, the children made salt dough decorations and sparkly pine cones to tie in with our pre-school ethod. They loved decorating the tree, and they even walked up to the church to help us deliver it!

They were so proud of it, and it was lovely to see ‘Buddy the Pre-School tree’ in its place.

Celebrating with a Christmas party!

It wouldn’t be Christmas without a party, so we said goodbye to packed lunches and hello to a Christmas buffet!

The children absolutely loved playing the party games beforehand, including musical chairs, pass the parcel and pin the nose on Rudolph!

Then they tucked into a scrummy Christmas lunch (with crackers to pull!). After everyone was suitably full, we wound down for a while and watched Stickman with some popcorn.

Making lovely reindeer food

Those reindeer have a long way to go, and definitely need some sustenance! This week, the children added all the ingredients for the reindeer food into a big tray, that they could then scoop into individual bags to take home.

They chose oats, glitter and Christmas confetti for their food. On Christmas Eve, they’ll be able to go out into the garden and sprinkle it everywhere so the reindeer can enjoy a yummy snack.

Plenty of Christmas crafts, gift making and present wrapping

In the final week before the Christmas break, we spent time making some special gifts for each child’s family. They also practised their gift wrapping (very important!) and did lots of Christmas crafts and Christmas baking.

The children absolutely love to get involved in any way, so they all took turns stirring the bakes and adding the ingredients.

And just like that, we’re breaking up for Christmas! We hope you all have a wonderful Christmas Day and a happy new year, and we’ll be back Tuesday 6th January!

December fun at Dodleston!
